CONTEST GUIDELINES

PURPOSE: To determine a new name for the Young Adult Group of TSL by soliciting name ideas from our worldwide membership. After May 7th, a jury team will form the ballot and all members will vote on the new name!

WHO CAN ENTER: Anyone ages 18-36 affiliated with TSL. You can enter the contest as an individual or a team (of 2-5 people). There is no limit on the number of entries per person.

WHEN: April 20, 2011 – May 7, 2011 (last day for submissions)

HOW: Begin by selecting a new name you’d like to see used for our group! Then send that idea along with your contact info (and if you are submitting as a group, all names in your group) and an explanation of why this should be the name of our organization in 100 words or less to: culture.team@yahoo.com by May 7th.

PRIZES: There will be prizes for the top 5 entries! The final winner (or winning team) will receive a free T-shirt with the new name printed on it.

About the Ballot
A Jury Team composed of several active members of the Culture Team, the Advisory Committee, and representatives from our international regional groups will select the top 3-5 entries from those submitted, based on the criteria below. These selected names will appear on the final ballot. One member of the Culture Team has agreed to serve as a collector of entries, and in order to maintain partiality in the process, will not be submitting an entry into the contest. The Jury Team will only review entries, and will not have access to the names of the people who submitted them.
All the “winners” whose names are selected to appear on the ballot will be notified by email during the week of May 16, 2011. This will be followed by an official vote sent out to all membership.

Things to Consider When Choosing a New Name
When determining what names will be on the ballot, the Culture committee will be particularly taking the following into consideration:

  • Have a religious/spiritual connotation, tone, or association
  • Be religiously inclusive, as opposed to relating to one specific religious tradition.
  • Have depth.
  • Be easy to put on a resume and talk about with friends
  • Be representative of a world-wide young adult movement
  • Be representative of our mission and vision (http://www.klfnet.com/494-2/)

Here are some suggestions and ideas you may want to consider when coming up with a new name:

  • If you want to refer to young people in the name, consider using the word “young” over “youth”.
  • Be shorter and easily used as an acronym
  • Link to our church by starting with “TSL” such as “TSL Teens United” or provide some other tie-back to TSL (summit, lighthouse, etc.).
  • Include the ideas of unity, reality, and/or personal seekers/strivers in the name.
  • Get ideas from our core belief, mission, and vision statements (http://www.klfnet.com/494-2/)
  • Get together with your friends and brainstorm ideas. Team submissions welcome!
